About Us
Here at The Center for Integrative and Holistic Counseling, we firmly believe in a person-centered approach. Rather than focusing on a disorder, our goal is for you to gain optimal health through integrative mental health care. What works for one person isn’t effective for others; that’s why we utilize all the best strategies and therapies in current practice.
From EMDR to mindfulness to guided imagery, we employ techniques from both allopathic and complementary and alternative medicine to create a holistic treatment plan specific to each client.

Through the different forms of treatment that we offer we can help you heal wounds of the past, cope with distress of the present, and help you pave new paths for behaviors and attitudes that will lead you to your desired self. Most importantly, we will do this together.

Applied Clinical Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is becoming a popular tool to deliver therapy. Our goal with hypnotherapy is to focus on mind-body connectivity and healing. It is possible through hypnotherapy to engage and direct one’s mind to a desired thought, emotion, and/or experience to work through the origins of an individual’s depression, anxiety, and even trauma. With hypnotherapy, we hope to help you heal emotional wounds and create new attitudes and ways of viewing your experiences.
Mindfulness-based interventions (MCBT/MBSR)
Mindfulness-based interventions are techniques used to bring a person into the present moment in a way that doesn’t allow for judgement. By practicing mindfulness, you will be able to become connected and more aware of your physical, mental, and emotional state. There are hundreds of mindfulness techniques to practice and like many other tools in therapy it is not a one-size-fits all. We can help you explore these different techniques of mindfulness so that you manifest the behaviors and attitudes you desire in your daily experiences.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR psychotherapy is used in the healing of distress that is associated with past traumatic experiences. Through EMDR we will help you process the experiences that have laid the groundwork for dysfunction, work through the current life circumstances that are bringing distress and arousing internal and external triggers, and finally forging new patterns, thoughts, and behaviors while desensitizing recognized triggers and allowing for new coping strategies around those experiences. Our goal is for you to feel safe and empowered in the present moment.
Guided Imagery
Through Guided Imagery we are able to guide you to a place of relaxation and stillness. Guided Imagery expounds upon the 5 senses requiring you to cultivate your sense of smell, touch, sound, sight, and taste as you are asked to envision a place of tranquility. Through this evoked state of relaxation there can begin a healing in your emotional and mental distress. Guided Imagery is a practice that not only impacts the mind, but the body as well. As your mind begins to slow down and heal, your body and breath will begin to follow and calm allowing for total mind-body connectivity.
Motivational Interviewing
It can be difficult to find our motivation; even in the things that we know are best for us. If you are lacking motivation to change behaviors that are preventing you from your whole self, it is our goal through Motivational Interviewing to move you through the emotional stages necessary to help you find that motivation and remove any barriers.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Oftentimes, we don’t realize that our own negative or inaccurate thought patterns can prevent us from coping and healing. Through Cognitive Behavior Therapy we can address these thought patterns and rewrite the script allowing you to view certain experiences and circumstances from a new set of lenses.
Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy
Through Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy we strive to help you recognize your own uniqueness and to ground you and bring a greater sense of awareness centered not only to yourself, but the world around you. This approach requires a deep sense of self-searching and meaning where you are allowed to explore which aspects of your life are in alignment with the journey you are on and which are not.
Mind Body Bridging/ MindShield
We all face stressors in our lives. Stress that causes a whirlwind of chaos in our minds, clutters our thoughts and tenses our body. How can we possibly respond appropriately to all of our daily responsibilities and important decisions in the middle of a storm? What if we can calm that storm and rest in a place of tranquility in all the noise that is around us on a daily basis? Through Mind Body Bridging/Mindshield we will implement mindfulness and mind-body connectivity to keep you centered, focused, and engaged so you can take on life and its stressors!

believe one of the bravest things anyone can do is to reclaim their life, get to know themselves and re-own their story. You are more than your symptoms or the sum of your lived experience. I admire and respect your bravery in seeking additional support as you venture through this season of life.?
My approach to working with you is one which focuses on the here and now. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process; you are the expert of your lived experience and so I welcome your input and everything you bring into the session. I desire to work with you in processing through the issues that life has handed you.
I have a passion for working with all sorts of individuals and families from all sorts of backgrounds. My specialties and areas of passion include working with individuals who deal with trauma injuries from various kinds of disturbing experiences whether spiritual, religious, occupational, sexual, physical, etc. as well as grief and loss, in addition to life transitions and self-worth issues.
I have a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Utah and am half-way through my Doctoral degree; a PhD. in Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University. Being at Saybrook University has allowed me additional certificates in clinical hypnosis and intensive training from leading experts in the field of existential-humanistic psychology. I have a passion for mindfulness which I have used in my personal life for the past 10 years.
Before working in psychotherapy in my private practice, I had the privilege to support children, youth and families in the foster care system doing outpatient counseling (in-home, school and office). I also provided therapy for adults struggling with severe chronic mental health issues in community mental health setting. Other working experience included treating OCD and anxiety related disorder in an intensive outpatient program.
In my down time, I enjoy the outdoors, spending time with my two children and husband. I enjoy music, poetry, dancing, connecting with my French culture through food and other means. Being born and raised in France allowed me to meet people from all around the world from different walks of life and faith traditions. This continues to fosters the awe I feel in the therapeutic process.
BERNICE HOSKINS TENORT RN, CSW
Nurse Manager Labor & Delivery
Humanistic Psychologist-Integrative Medicine Practitioner
My passion is people, I started working with people 28 years ago as a registered nurse. I have been with families as they have said goodbye to their loved ones, and I have been honored to be with families as they have welcomed new members into the world. On some occasions, I have been there for both the beginning of life and shortly after that life has ended, so I have been the companion for those families during those joyous and difficult times along their journeys. I have been witnessed to so many strong and beautiful human spirits, I have watched them hurt and struggle and I have watched them prevail. I have so much faith in the human spirit.
I use mindfulness techniques and believe that to have a healthy body, you must have a healthy mind and vice versa. In therapy, you will learn how your mind works and how your body responds to the thoughts of your mind. You will learn some tools to keep you in the present and tools to help you regulate your emotions. I believe that all of these tools will help you tap into your own strong, beautiful human spirit and create the life you want for yourself and have a little fun along the way on your life’s journey.
I received my Bachelor of Nursing degree from Aspen University in Colorado, I have been a nurse for 28 years. I practice as the nurse manager of Labor and delivery at the University of Utah Hospital. I received my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Utah in 2020. I received my MSW because in my many years working in the medical field I noticed that traditional medicine did not incorporate mental health into its model. I feel strongly that in order to live a whole and happy life you must address all aspects of the human, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
When I am not working, I love to spend time outside hiking, snow skiing, boating, riding bikes. I have a beautiful large family with four beautiful sons and one beautiful daughter. One stepdaughter and one stepson. I have eleven very active, curious grandchildren that keep me young.
